Gainvirheet is a term used in optics and imaging to describe imperfections or distortions in the amplification process of light. These errors can arise from various sources, depending on the specific optical system or sensor being used. For instance, in digital imaging sensors, gain variations across the sensor can lead to inconsistencies in brightness and color, particularly in areas with uniform illumination. This means that different pixels might amplify the incoming light signal by slightly different amounts, resulting in a non-uniform image.

Addressing gainvirheet is crucial for achieving accurate and high-quality images. Techniques such as flat-field correction, where an image of a uniformly illuminated surface is used to characterize and compensate for these variations, are commonly employed. Careful calibration and sensor design also play a significant role in minimizing these optical errors.
