GaBi

GaBi is a commercial life cycle assessment (LCA) software package used to model, quantify, and compare the environmental aspects of products, processes, and systems across their life cycles. It was originally developed by PE INTERNATIONAL in Germany and is now part of Sphera, a global provider of sustainability, risk management, and EHS software. The software provides a database-driven environment for constructing life cycle inventories and calculating environmental impact indicators using multiple impact assessment methods.

Users build process models with flows of materials, energy, and emissions, connect processes into complete product systems, and evaluate cradle-to-grave or cradle-to-gate scenarios. GaBi includes extensive datasets covering multiple industry sectors and supports importing external data. It supports ISO 14040/44 compliant LCAs and commonly used impact assessment methods, such as ReCiPe, TRACI, and CML, enabling consistency with international practice. The platform also offers visualization tools, reporting templates, and options for sensitivity and uncertainty analysis, as well as features for decision support, EPD generation, and supply chain analysis.

GaBi is widely used by manufacturers, consultants, and academic researchers for product design optimization, sustainability reporting, policy analysis, and lifecycle research. It is frequently employed to inform environmental product declarations, compare design alternatives, and assess material and process choices from an environmental perspective.

Since its acquisition by Sphera, GaBi has been maintained as part of a broader sustainability and risk management software portfolio, with ongoing updates to databases, methods, and interoperability with other tools.
