These systems consist of a constellation of satellites orbiting the Earth. Each satellite transmits radio signals containing its precise location and the current time. A GNSS receiver on the ground picks up these signals from multiple satellites. By measuring the time it takes for the signals to arrive from at least four different satellites, the receiver can calculate its three-dimensional position (latitude, longitude, and altitude) and synchronize its internal clock with a highly accurate time standard.
