GFZ

GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, commonly known as GFZ, is Germany’s national research center for geosciences. It is based in Potsdam on the Telegrafenberg and functions as a member of the Leibniz Association. The center coordinates multidisciplinary research across the Earth system, combining physics, geoscience, and engineering to study the solid Earth, oceans, atmosphere, and hydrosphere.

GFZ pursues research in areas such as geophysics, geodesy, geology, hydrology and climate dynamics, geoinformatics, and

Established in 1992, GFZ is funded by the German federal government and the states, with governance carried
