GAARt

GAARt is an international platform dedicated to generative and algorithmic art. It combines an online gallery, an open archive of works and source code, and a program of educational events. The project emphasizes accessibility, openness, and reproducibility, often releasing works under permissive licenses and providing documentation, data, and tools to enable reuse and study.

Founded in 2016 by a cross-disciplinary collective of artists and software developers based in Amsterdam and Berlin, GAARt emerged to document and democratize computational creativity across media, including images, animation, sound, and interactive installations. It evolved into a network with regional groups and collaborators spanning several continents.

Activities include a rotating online gallery of featured works, an open-source code library, a searchable archive of algorithms and techniques, and educational offerings such as tutorials, workshops, and talks. Each exhibit often pairs artwork with source code, datasets, and documentation to support study and reuse. The annual GAARt Festival combines online showcases with live events.

Content licensing is central to GAARt's approach. Works are typically released under Creative Commons licenses or permissive open-source licenses, with explicit attribution and guidance for remixing and adaptation.
