Föstumánuður, meaning "fasting month" in Icelandic, refers to the month of Ramadan in Islamic tradition. During Föstumánuður, adult Muslims who are able are obligated to fast from dawn until sunset. This fasting, known as *sawm*, involves abstaining from food, drink, smoking, and marital relations.
