Fönstergränssnitt

Fönstergränssnitt, or windowing system, is a graphical user interface (GUI) system that displays information and applications in separate rectangular areas called windows. These windows can be moved, resized, minimized, maximized, and closed by the user, allowing for multitasking and efficient organization of screen real estate. This concept was a significant advancement in human-computer interaction, moving away from command-line interfaces towards a more intuitive visual approach.

Early windowing systems emerged in the 1970s, with pioneering work at Xerox PARC laying the foundation. Later, systems like the Apple Macintosh and Microsoft Windows popularized the concept for a wider audience. The underlying technology often involves a display server that manages the drawing of windows and a window manager responsible for handling user input and window placement.

Icons represent minimized applications or files, menus provide access to commands and options, and pointers, typically controlled by a mouse or touchpad, allow users to interact with these elements.
