Fékervisszacsatolást, which translates to "brake feedback" or "brake regeneration," is a process used in some electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles where the electric motor acts as a generator during deceleration. Instead of dissipating kinetic energy as heat through conventional friction brakes, this energy is converted into electrical energy. This electrical energy is then stored in the vehicle's battery pack, effectively recharging it and extending the driving range.

The system operates by reversing the motor's function when the driver lifts their foot off the accelerator or applies the brake pedal. The motor, normally consuming electricity to drive the wheels, now uses the momentum of the vehicle to spin, generating an electrical current. This process inherently creates a braking effect, slowing the vehicle down. The intensity of this regenerative braking can often be adjusted by the driver, allowing for different levels of deceleration.

While regenerative braking primarily occurs during gentle braking and deceleration, friction brakes are still essential for more forceful stopping and as a backup system.
