Färgäkthet is a Swedish term that translates to colorfastness in English. It refers to the resistance of a dyed material, such as fabric, paper, or paint, to fading or bleeding when exposed to various conditions. These conditions can include washing, light exposure (sunlight or artificial light), rubbing (crocking), perspiration, and chemical treatments.

The colorfastness of a material is a crucial quality indicator, particularly for textiles and printed materials. High colorfastness ensures that the original color of the item remains vibrant and unchanged over time and through normal use. Conversely, poor colorfastness can lead to premature fading, staining of adjacent materials, or a generally worn appearance.

Various testing methods are employed to assess colorfastness. These tests simulate real-world conditions and rate the material on a scale, often indicating its performance against specific agents like light or washing. Different applications demand different levels of colorfastness.
