Furnérozott

Furnérozott is the Hungarian term for a veneered surface. In woodworking, to veneer means applying a thin sheet of natural wood, usually 0.6 to 3 millimeters thick, to a low-cost or stable substrate such as plywood, medium-density fibreboard (MDF), or particleboard. The goal is to obtain the appearance of solid wood while using less material and achieving greater dimensional stability.

Veneers can be produced by rotary-cutting, sliced veneer, or half- and bookmatching techniques, creating patterns such as straight grain, curved grain, or parquet-like motifs. Common species include oak, maple, cherry, walnut, and mahogany. Veneers are typically glued with PVA or other wood glues and finished with varnish, lacquer, or polyurethane.

Substrates: Veneered panels are widely used in furniture, cabinetry, interior doors, and wall cover panels. Benefits include lower material cost, reduced weight, and the ability to cover large surfaces with consistent grain. Limitations include edge chipping, veneer delamination if poorly bonded, and sensitivity to moisture at seams.

In Hungarian industry, furnérozott products are common in mass-produced furniture and interior fittings. The term distinguishes surfaces that are veneer-covered from solid wood or other laminates. Quality is often indicated by veneer thickness, grain matching, and finishing.
