Fräsertyps refers to the classification or categorization of milling cutters. Milling cutters are rotating tools with cutting edges used in milling machines to remove material from a workpiece. Their classification is typically based on several factors, including their geometry, material, and intended application.

One common classification is by shape. Examples include cylindrical cutters, which have cutting edges on their circumference, and face mills, which have cutting edges on their end face and periphery, used for producing flat surfaces. Disc cutters, with cutting edges on their periphery, are often used for slotting or cutting off. Form cutters are designed to produce specific shapes, such as gears or threads.

Another important classification is by material. High-speed steel (HSS) cutters are a traditional choice, offering good toughness and wear resistance. Carbide cutters, made from cemented carbides, are harder and more wear-resistant, allowing for higher cutting speeds and longer tool life, especially in hard materials. Ceramic and polycrystalline diamond (PCD) cutters are used for extremely hard materials or high-volume production where superior wear resistance is paramount.

Classification can also be based on the type of operation performed. Roughing cutters are designed for rapid material removal, prioritizing efficiency over surface finish. Finishing cutters are optimized for producing a smooth surface finish. Specialized cutters exist for specific tasks like grooving, chamfering, or threading. The choice of Fräsertyps depends on the workpiece material, desired geometry, required surface finish, and available machine capabilities.
