Friksjonelle

Friksjonelle is a Norwegian adjective meaning "frictional" and is used to describe phenomena related to friction between contacting surfaces or within materials. The term appears in physics, engineering, geology, and biomechanics to characterize forces, properties, and processes that arise from or are influenced by friction.

In mechanics, friksjonelle forces oppose relative motion and depend on the normal contact force and a friction coefficient. Analyses often distinguish static friction, which resists initial motion, from kinetic (sliding) friction, which acts during motion. Friksjonelle processes also generate heat and can lead to wear, surface deformation, and energy dissipation. Lubrication and surface engineering are common methods to modify friksjonelle behavior.

In geophysics and seismology, fault slip is governed by friksjonelle strength at fault interfaces. Rate-and-state friction laws describe how friction evolves with slip history and slip rate, influencing stick-slip behavior and earthquake nucleation.

In material science and tribology, friksjonelle egenskaper (frictional properties) of materials determine wear resistance, energy losses, and service life. Experimental assessment uses tribometers and standardized tests under controlled loads, speeds, and lubricants.

In biomechanics, friction at joints and between implants affects mobility and wear. Design of prostheses and lubricants aims to optimize friksjonelle performance.
