Frigjøringen
Frigjøringen, or the Liberation, refers to Norway’s return to sovereignty following the Nazi occupation during World War II and the subsequent restoration of Norwegian governance. The occupation began in 1940 after Germany invaded Norway and lasted until the end of the war in Europe in 1945. A collaborationist government led by Vidkun Quisling governed parts of the country, while a broad resistance movement, including Milorg and other underground networks, maintained opposition and laid groundwork for postwar administration.
