Framkoma

Framkoma is a term used in speculative writing and online discourse to describe a hypothesized condition in which individuals, organizations, or societies are immobilized by the perception or anticipation of future developments. The term is not widely recognized in established dictionaries or scholarly literature.

Origins and word formation are not standardized. The form appears to draw on Scandinavian roots, with fram- commonly associated with forward or ahead, and koma linked to coma. Because there is no authoritative etymology, the usage remains metaphorical and varies by author.

In philosophical and futurist discussions, framkoma is used as a metaphor for decision paralysis, inertia, or the diffusion of responsibility when confronted with looming technological or social change. In fiction, it may describe a literal or systemic state in which people are maintained in a suspended condition to shield them from a changing world, or as a plot device representing control by corporations or governments.

History and usage are likewise informal. Framkoma is not a recognized term in major reference works, and its appearances are sporadic, found in blog posts, essays, and speculative fiction since the late 2010s. There is no central authority defining it, and interpretations range from psychological phenomena to narrative mechanisms.
