Fraktionsmitglied is a member of a Fraktion, the parliamentary group of a political party or allied groups in a legislative body. The Fraktion coordinates the policy positions and parliamentary actions of its members. In German legislatures, parties with representation form fractions; to be a Fraktionsmitglied you must be an elected member of the parliament and part of the party’s parliamentary group. A minimum number of members is often required for a formal Fraktion; smaller factions are sometimes called Gruppen or lack formal status.
