Fotogrammetriatyöprosessi, also known as photogrammetric workflow, is a systematic approach to creating 3D models and measurements from photographs. This process begins with data acquisition, where overlapping images of a subject or scene are captured from various angles. The quality and overlap of these images are crucial for the success of the subsequent steps.

Following acquisition, the images are processed through specialized photogrammetry software. The initial stage often involves identifying common features or "tie points" across multiple images. These points are then used to establish the relative positions and orientations of the cameras at the time of capture. This step is fundamental for aligning the photographs correctly.

Once aligned, a dense point cloud is generated. This cloud represents a multitude of 3D points, derived from the matching of features in the stereo pairs of images. The density of this point cloud directly influences the level of detail in the final model.

After the point cloud is created, a mesh is constructed. This mesh is a surface representation of the point cloud, typically composed of triangles, which forms the basis of the 3D model. Textures, derived from the original photographs, are then mapped onto this mesh to give the model its realistic appearance.

Finally, the process concludes with the generation of orthorectified images or the export of the 3D model in various formats, depending on the intended application. This can include creating precise measurements, generating digital elevation models, or producing visualizations for fields such as surveying, engineering, archaeology, and virtual reality.
