Forproduktion

Forproduktion, often translated as pre-production, is the planning and preparatory phase that precedes the main production of a project. In media such as film, television and theater, as well as in product development and manufacturing, forproduktion encompasses the activities undertaken to organize resources, clarify concepts, and establish a workable plan before actual production begins.

In media contexts, forproduktion includes script finalization, budget and schedule development, development of the shooting script, storyboarding, casting, location scouting, design and build of sets, props, costumes, and special effects plans, as well as technical planning for cameras, lighting, sound, and post-production workflows. It also covers permits, contracts, safety planning, and risk assessment.

In manufacturing or product development contexts, forproduktion includes design reviews, prototyping, tooling and process development, supplier qualification, costing, capability studies, and the creation of a manufacturing plan and validation strategy. The goal is to validate feasibility, reduce risk, and provide a detailed roadmap for production.

Key deliverables typically produced during forproduktion include a shooting or production schedule, shooting script, storyboard and shot lists (for media), location releases and permits, production design layouts, cost estimates and budgets, call sheets, and safety and risk assessments. The phase ends when production activities begin on set or in the factory.
