Fogérzékenység

Fogérzékenység, often referred to as tooth sensitivity, is a common dental condition characterized by sharp, sudden pain in the teeth when exposed to certain stimuli. These stimuli typically include hot or cold temperatures, sweet or acidic foods and drinks, and sometimes even cold air or brushing. The sensation is usually temporary and may subside quickly once the stimulus is removed.

The underlying cause of tooth sensitivity is often the exposure of the dentin, the layer beneath the enamel. Dentin contains thousands of microscopic tubules that lead to the tooth's nerve center. When dentin is exposed, external stimuli can trigger the nerves inside the tooth, resulting in pain. Common reasons for dentin exposure include enamel erosion due to acidic foods and drinks, gum recession which exposes the root surfaces of the teeth, or teeth grinding (bruxism). Dental procedures like teeth whitening or fillings can also temporarily cause sensitivity.

Managing fogérzékenység often involves identifying and addressing the root cause. Dentists may recommend using desensitizing toothpaste, which contains compounds that help block the tubules in the dentin. Practicing good oral hygiene, including gentle brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and using fluoride toothpaste, is crucial. Avoiding highly acidic or sugary foods and drinks can also help prevent enamel erosion. In cases of severe sensitivity or when the cause is unclear, a dental professional can diagnose the issue and recommend appropriate treatments, which might include fluoride varnishes or bonding agents to cover exposed dentin.
