Fogsor

Fogsor is the Hungarian term for dentures, removable dental appliances that replace missing teeth and the surrounding tissues. They are custom-made to fit the wearer’s mouth and help restore function for biting, chewing, and speaking, as well as appearance.

Most fogsor are categorized into two main types: full dentures, which replace all teeth in an arch (upper or lower), and partial dentures, which fill gaps left by one or more missing teeth and are supported by remaining natural teeth with clasps or attachments. In some cases, implant-supported dentures or overdentures use dental implants for improved stability, and these can be removable or fixed.

Fabrication begins with a dental examination and impressions of the upper and lower jaws, bite registration to record how the jaws come together, and an esthetic wax model for fit. A try-in phase with the artificial teeth allows adjustments before final processing. After fitting, clinicians adjust the denture to minimize sore spots and improve comfort and function.

Common materials include acrylic resin for the base and artificial teeth; some partial dentures use metal frameworks or flexible polymers. Care and use involve daily cleaning with a soft brush and non-abrasive paste, soaking overnight in a denture solution, and avoiding hot water. Dentures should be removed for sleep to reduce gum pressure. Regular dental check-ups are needed to monitor fit and overall oral health; relining or replacement may be required as the jaw changes over time.

New fogsor often require an adaptation period for speech and eating. Poor fit can cause irritation or infections such as denture stomatitis. Longevity is typically 5 to 10 years, depending on wear, changes in the jaw, and care.
