Focussensitive

Focussensitive is an adjective used to describe systems, components, or features that respond to the focus state of an element or process. The term is not tied to a single standard and may appear in informal or domain-specific usage to denote dependence on focus.

In user interfaces and software, a focus-sensitive control reacts when it gains or loses keyboard focus. Examples include input fields that display a highlight when focused, or buttons that trigger different behavior when focused versus when activated by a mouse. Focus sensitivity is central to accessible design, enabling keyboard users to navigate interfaces predictably; developers commonly use mechanisms such as the :focus pseudo-class in CSS and the aria-focused state to convey focus status to assistive technologies. Focus indicators like outlines or color changes help users track where input would be directed.

In imaging and optics, focus sensitivity is sometimes used to describe sensors, algorithms, or mechanisms that adjust processing based on whether the subject is in focus. For example, autofocus systems rely on focus-sensitive cues to determine the correct focus distance. However, this usage is not standardized and may vary by vendor.
