Flexopressar

Flexopressar is a term used in some mechanical engineering and manufacturing contexts to describe a process or device that combines flexion of a component with a pressing action in a single operation. The precise meaning varies by application, and there is no universally accepted definition. In general, flexopressar refers to systems where bending elements provide a controlled curvature or contact geometry while a separate pressing member delivers compression or bonding force.

Mechanism: Typical flexopressar configurations use actuated compliant members or bending beams to induce a variable radius of curvature, coordinated with a parallel or coincident pressing action. Control systems adjust bending travel, curvature, contact pressure, and feed or clamp motion to achieve the desired form or join.

Applications: Used in manufacturing and prototyping to form curved surfaces in plastics, composites, or laminates; in bonding or lamination processes where bending helps align layers and the press fixes them under pressure; and in light-forming tasks where conventional straight tooling is insufficient.

Advantages and challenges: The approach can improve surface finish on complex geometries and enable new part geometries without dedicated tooling. It also introduces complexity in design, control, and calibration, and may impose higher wear on flexible components and tooling.
