Flerskiveoppsett, also known as a floppy disk drive setup or configuration, refers to the process of installing and configuring a floppy disk drive in a computer system. This setup involves both hardware and software components. The hardware aspect includes physically installing the drive into the computer's chassis, connecting it to the motherboard via a ribbon cable, and ensuring proper power connections. The software aspect involves configuring the operating system to recognize and utilize the floppy disk drive.

The floppy disk drive setup process typically begins with identifying the appropriate drive bay in the computer chassis. The drive is then secured into the bay using screws or clips. Next, the ribbon cable is connected to the drive and the motherboard, ensuring that the correct pins align. Power connections are made to the drive, often through a power connector from the power supply unit (PSU).

Once the hardware is installed, the operating system must be configured to recognize the floppy disk drive. This involves updating the BIOS/UEFI settings to include the floppy disk drive in the boot sequence, if desired. Additionally, device drivers may need to be installed to enable the operating system to communicate with the drive.

After the setup is complete, the floppy disk drive can be used to read from or write to floppy disks, which are physical storage media with a capacity of 1.44 MB. This setup was common in the 1980s and 1990s but has largely been replaced by more modern storage solutions such as USB flash drives and external hard drives.
