Finansberetning

Finansberetning is the management’s report that accompanies the annual financial statements of Norwegian companies. It provides a narrative overview of the company’s activities during the financial year, describes significant events, and explains factors that have influenced the result and financial position. The report is prepared in accordance with the Norwegian Accounting Act (Regnskapsloven) and the applicable accounting standards, such as IFRS for listed groups or NGAAP for other entities. It complements the financial statements by presenting qualitative information, risk exposure, key estimates and judgments, and a view of future developments.

Contents typically found in a finansberetning include a description of the business and market conditions, a summary of significant events during the year, and an assessment of risks and risk management. It may also cover financing and liquidity, capital resources, and anticipated cash flows, as well as important estimates and judgments used in the preparation of the financial statements. In many cases, information about research and development, employees, corporate social responsibility, and environmental considerations is included when relevant. The report also addresses events after the balance sheet date and, where applicable, the expected future development of the company.

Purpose and scope: the finansberetning aims to provide stakeholders with a broader understanding of the company beyond numbers, including strategy, risks, and prospects. Legal requirements vary by company type and size; some entities have simplified reporting obligations. The finansberetning is published together with the årsregnskapet (annual accounts) and should be transparent, factual, and balanced.
