Filmfotográfia, often shortened to film photography, refers to the practice of capturing images using light-sensitive film rather than digital sensors. This traditional method involves a camera that records images onto a roll of film, which then needs to be chemically developed and processed to reveal the photographs. Different types of film exist, each offering unique characteristics in terms of color rendition, grain, and sensitivity to light, commonly referred to as ISO or ASA.

The process typically begins with loading the film into the camera. When a photograph is taken, the camera's shutter opens for a specific duration, allowing light to pass through the lens and expose the film. After the entire roll of film is used, it is removed from the camera and taken to a darkroom or a photo lab. There, it undergoes a series of chemical baths, including developer, stop bath, fixer, and wash, to make the latent image visible and permanent. The developed film is then usually scanned or printed onto photographic paper to create the final image.

While digital photography has become dominant, film photography remains popular among enthusiasts and professionals for its distinct aesthetic qualities, which are often characterized by a certain grain, tonal range, and color saturation that can be difficult to replicate digitally. The deliberate nature of shooting on film, where each frame is limited and requires careful consideration before exposure, is also a draw for many practitioners.
