Filkryptering

Filkryptering is the process of encoding digital information within a file so that only authorized parties can access it. This is achieved through the use of algorithms that scramble the data into an unreadable format, known as ciphertext. A decryption key is then required to reverse the process and restore the original data.

The primary purpose of filkryptering is to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access or disclosure. This is crucial for individuals and organizations dealing with confidential data, such as personal identification, financial records, intellectual property, or classified government information. When a file is encrypted, even if it falls into the wrong hands, it remains unintelligible without the correct decryption key.

There are various methods and algorithms used for filkryptering, broadly categorized into symmetric and asymmetric encryption. Symmetric encryption uses the same key for both encryption and decryption, making it generally faster but requiring a secure way to share the key.
