Fergen

Fergen is a municipality and parish in Veridia's northern region. It covers an area of 28.5 square kilometers and had a population of about 3,900 in 2022. The municipal seat is the village of Fergen, and the municipality includes scattered hamlets alongside farmland and forest.

Geography and climate: The area is hilly with mixed farmland and deciduous forests. The Fergenbach stream flows through the municipality, joining larger rivers nearby. Elevations range from 120 to 320 meters above sea level. The climate is temperate with moderate rainfall year-round.

History: The first known written mention of Fergen dates to 1250. It developed as an agricultural community and market stop, gaining municipal autonomy in 1903 and expanding in the postwar period with light industry and improved roads.

Economy and infrastructure: The economy relies on dairy farming, forestry, and small manufacturing. Local services support residents, while tourism centers on outdoor recreation and local heritage sites. The municipality is served by regional roads; the nearest railway station is in Northhaven, about 12 km away.

Education and culture: Fergen has one primary school; secondary education is available in neighboring towns. Cultural life centers on the annual Fergen Festival in late summer, a crafts and music event, and a small municipal history museum.
