Feluda

Feluda, whose real name is Prodosh Chandra Mitter, is a fictional Bengali detective created by acclaimed Indian author Satyajit Ray. Feluda is a private investigator based in Kolkata, India. He is known for his sharp intellect, keen observation skills, and logical reasoning, which he uses to solve complex mysteries. Feluda is often accompanied by his cousin Tapesh Ranjan Mitra, known as Topshe, a bright and eager young boy who serves as his assistant and chronicler, and Lalmohan Ganguly, a crime fiction writer who adopts the pseudonym Jatayu, providing comic relief and occasional insights.

The stories typically involve Feluda unraveling crimes ranging from petty thefts to murders, often set against the backdrop of historical or cultural landmarks in West Bengal and sometimes beyond. Ray meticulously researched the settings and historical context of his stories, making them both thrilling and educational. Feluda's cases are characterized by their intricate plots, well-developed characters, and a satisfying resolution where the detective explains his deductions step-by-step. The character of Feluda himself is portrayed as a cultured and intelligent individual, a graduate of physics from the University of Calcutta, who enjoys crossword puzzles and classical music. He is depicted as a bachelor, living a relatively simple life when not engrossed in an investigation. Satyajit Ray wrote 35 Feluda stories between 1965 and 1992, and the character has since been continued by his son Sandip Ray, who has adapted many of the stories for film and television.
