FeldbusStandards
FeldbusStandards are standardized communication protocols and interfaces used in industrial automation to enable data exchange between sensors, actuators, controllers and other devices on factory and process plants. They define the physical connections, data formats, communication rules, and services such as diagnostics, timing, and safety. The term encompasses multiple families that have evolved from simple device-to-device links to real-time, distributed networks.
The core framework is published by international standards bodies, notably the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). In
Historically prominent fieldbus families include PROFIBUS and FOUNDATION Fieldbus. PROFIBUS originated in Germany for factory automation
Applications span discrete manufacturing, process control, and energy and infrastructure sectors. Benefits include interoperability, scalable architectures,
