Feathersors

Feathersors are a fictional group of avian-like organisms described in speculative biology and science fiction. They are defined by a distinctive plumage system in which fine, filamentous structures extend from the wings, back, and tail. These filaments, collectively called feathersors, provide insulation, display, and in some settings, the capacity to harvest and store solar energy through embedded photonic cells.

Individual specimens vary in size from small passerine-like forms to medium-sized birds of prey. The plumage is slender, translucent, and can refract light to produce iridescent colors. Both parents participate in incubating eggs, and juveniles molt into the adult plumage, acquiring the characteristic feathersors as they mature.

In world-building literature, feathersors are sometimes depicted as symbols of energy stewardship or as sources of renewable power in futuristic contexts, with the plumage serving as miniature solar collectors or energy stores. As a fictional concept, it serves as a lens for exploring morphology, ecology, and cultural interpretation within imagined ecosystems.
