Faredge is a term encountered in technology discussions to describe a class of edge-computing solutions that prioritize fairness in data handling and resource allocation at the periphery of a network. The word faredge combines the idea of fairness with edge computing, signaling an emphasis on equitable access for devices, applications, and data streams operating close to users and sensors.

Conceptually, faredge platforms orchestrate computation across distributed edge nodes while enforcing policies that curb bias, ensure privacy, and balance load. Typical components include edge nodes, a policy and governance layer, a scheduler that allocates compute and bandwidth fairly, and privacy-preserving analytics such as local inference and secure enclaves. Common use cases include industrial IoT where equipment at multiple sites processes data locally to reduce latency; healthcare devices that must protect patient data while enabling timely analysis; and smart-city applications that aggregate sensor data while guaranteeing fair resource access for diverse services.

In practice, faredge terminology varies, and there is no single universally accepted definition. Critics caution that "fairness" is context-dependent and difficult to quantify in distributed systems. Proponents argue that explicit governance and measurement can improve performance, privacy, and user trust in edge deployments.
