FDIR

FDIR stands for Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery. It is a critical process in the design and operation of many complex systems, particularly in aerospace, automotive, and industrial automation. The primary goal of FDIR is to ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of a system in the presence of faults or failures.

Fault Detection is the first stage, where the system monitors its own parameters and behaviors to identify any deviations from normal operation. This can involve checking sensor readings, comparing expected outputs with actual outputs, or using analytical models to predict system behavior.

Once a deviation is detected, the Isolation phase aims to pinpoint the specific component or subsystem that has failed. The final stage is Recovery, where the system takes action to mitigate the effects of the fault and restore functionality. The objective of recovery is to maintain as much operational capability as possible, even if it means operating in a degraded mode.
