FBO

FBO is an acronym that may refer to several concepts in different fields, including aviation, computing, and finance. The term is most widely encountered in aviation as Fixed-Base Operator, though other meanings exist in technology and financial contexts.

Fixed-Base Operator. In aviation, an FBO is a commercial business granted the right to operate at an airport and provide services to general aviation and sometimes charter or commercial flights. Typical offerings include aircraft fueling, hangar and tie-down facilities, maintenance, ground handling, passenger terminals, crew facilities, and concierge services. FBOs may also arrange flight training, aircraft rental, weather services, and customs or immigration support at international airports. They usually operate under contract or lease with the airport authority and compete with other FBOs for customers such as private pilots, business jets, and charter operators.

Framebuffer Object. In computer graphics, a Framebuffer Object provides offscreen rendering within OpenGL and related APIs. An FBO allows rendering to textures or renderbuffers instead of directly to the screen, enabling effects such as post-processing, shadow mapping, and rendering scenes to textures for later use. An FBO is created and bound, then attachments for color, depth, and stencil buffers are attached and checked for completeness before rendering.

For Benefit Of. In banking and finance, FBO stands for “for the benefit of” and is used in account naming to indicate funds held on behalf of another person or entity. It designates a beneficiary or intended recipient in trust, custodial, or fiduciary arrangements. It is not a separate account holder but a labeling convention used for clarity in fund transfers and custody.
