Fáradtságosodás

Fáradtságosodás, often referred to as burnout in English, is a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It is characterized by three key dimensions: feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion, increased mental distance from one's job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one's job, and reduced professional efficacy. These feelings are usually accompanied by reduced performance or effectiveness at work or other personal or professional roles.

The term burnout was first introduced by psychologist Herbert Freudenberger in 1974, but it gained wider recognition through the work of psychologist Christina Maslach and her colleagues in the 1990s. They identified burnout as a response to chronic stress at work, and proposed a three-dimensional model to describe it.

Symptoms of burnout can include emotional exhaustion, feelings of cynicism or detachment, and a sense of reduced personal accomplishment. These symptoms can lead to decreased job performance, increased errors, and higher absenteeism. Burnout can also have physical health consequences, such as headaches, digestive problems, and cardiovascular issues.

Prevention and management of burnout involve creating a supportive work environment, promoting work-life balance, and encouraging open communication about work-related stress. Employees who recognize the signs of burnout in themselves or others should seek support from their employers, such as flexible work arrangements, stress management training, or counseling services. If left unaddressed, burnout can lead to long-term health issues and even career changes.
