Exudaatioiden is a Finnish term that translates to "exudations" in English. In a medical context, exudations refer to the fluid that escapes from blood vessels and is deposited in the surrounding tissues. This fluid, known as exudate, is typically rich in proteins, cells, and solid materials from the blood. It is often a sign of inflammation, where blood vessel walls become more permeable, allowing these substances to leak out.

The formation of exudate is a natural response of the body to injury or infection. It can serve to dilute toxins, transport immune cells to the affected area to fight pathogens, and facilitate the removal of cellular debris. The appearance and composition of exudate can vary depending on the cause. For instance, serous exudate is thin and watery, typically seen in mild inflammation like blisters. Purulent exudate, often referred to as pus, is thicker and opaque, containing a high concentration of white blood cells and dead tissue, indicating a bacterial infection. Hemorrhagic exudate contains red blood cells, suggesting damage to blood vessels.
