Explanationsif is a neologism used in discussions of explanation design and interpretability to denote a form of explanation that explicitly encodes conditional applicability. The core idea is that an explanation should be valid only under specified conditions, and the explanation itself should state those conditions. Explanationsif thus combines descriptive content with a conditional frame that marks when the explanation holds.

The term is a portmanteau of explanation and if, underscoring the idea that the relevance of the reasoning depends on particular states of the system, user context, or input features. In practice, explanationsif messages present one or more antecedents, such as threshold values, feature states, or temporal contexts, followed by the explanatory claim. For example: "The classifier predicts high risk if feature X exceeds 0.7, and this explanation applies if feature Y is also true." Such formats aim to prevent overgeneralization by signaling applicability.
