Exclusionism

Exclusionism is a social and political concept that describes the practice of deliberately preventing certain individuals or groups from participating in or belonging to a society or community. This exclusion can manifest in various forms, including social, economic, political, and cultural discrimination. It is often based on characteristics such as ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, social class, or disability.

The underlying principle of exclusionism is the idea that some individuals or groups are inherently less deserving of inclusion, rights, or resources than others. This can stem from a variety of beliefs, including prejudice, fear of the "other," or the desire to maintain existing power structures. Historically, exclusionism has been a driving force behind many forms of oppression, such as apartheid, segregation, and the systematic marginalization of minority groups.

In contemporary contexts, exclusionism can be observed in discriminatory housing policies, unequal access to education and employment, and the denial of political representation. It can also occur in less overt ways, such as through the perpetuation of stereotypes or the creation of social barriers that prevent certain groups from fully integrating into mainstream society.
