Europopulism

Europopulism refers to a political phenomenon characterized by populist movements and parties operating within the European Union or drawing heavily on European themes and identities. These movements often blend nationalist sentiments with a critique of the EU's institutions, policies, and perceived elite. They frequently advocate for greater national sovereignty, challenging the supranational authority of Brussels and emphasizing the importance of national culture and borders.

Key themes within Europopulism include skepticism towards immigration, a desire to reclaim control over national decision-making, and a rejection of perceived liberal or cosmopolitan values promoted by the EU. While some Europopulist parties are primarily focused on national issues, others actively engage with European-level politics, seeking to influence or reform the EU from within, or in some cases, advocating for withdrawal from the Union.
