Ethernetteknologiaa refers to the technologies and principles associated with Ethernet, a widely used family of wired computer networking technologies. It is the foundational standard for Local Area Networks (LANs). Ethernet defines physical layer and data link layer specifications for the transmission of data. Key components of Ethernet technology include network interface controllers (NICs), Ethernet cables (such as twisted pair or fiber optic), and Ethernet switches or hubs which facilitate communication between devices.

The technology has evolved significantly since its inception in the 1970s. Early Ethernet operated at much lower speeds, such as 10 megabits per second (Mbps). Modern Ethernet standards support speeds ranging from 100 Mbps to 100 gigabits per second (Gbps) and beyond, making it suitable for a wide range of applications from home networks to large enterprise data centers. Protocols like Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) were historically important for managing access to the shared network medium, though newer switched Ethernet largely eliminates collisions. The development of Ethernet has been crucial for the proliferation of the internet and interconnected computing devices.
