Ethernetkablet, often referred to as an Ethernet cable or network cable, is a type of electrical cable used in wired local area networks (LANs). It is a physical connection that allows devices such as computers, routers, modems, and network switches to communicate with each other and access the internet. The most common type of Ethernet cable uses unshielded twisted pair (UTP) wiring, where pairs of copper wires are twisted together to reduce electromagnetic interference.

Ethernet cables are categorized by their standard, denoted by a "Cat" number, such as Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, Cat7, and Cat8. Higher category numbers generally indicate improved performance, supporting higher data transfer speeds and greater bandwidth. For example, Cat5e supports speeds up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps), while Cat6a can handle 10 Gbps. The connectors typically used on Ethernet cables are RJ45 plugs, which are physically similar to telephone jacks but larger. These connectors ensure a secure and reliable physical connection between devices.
