Esteryhmällä
Esteryhmällä is a term used in organic chemistry to refer to the functional group with the structure R−C(=O)−O−R′, where R and R′ are independently any alkyl or aryl group. This functional group is characterized by a carbonyl group (C=O) directly bonded to an oxygen atom, which is in turn bonded to another carbon atom. Esters are derivatives of carboxylic acids, where the hydroxyl group (−OH) of the acid has been replaced by an alkoxy (−OR′) group.
Esteryhmällä compounds are formed through a reaction called esterification, typically between a carboxylic acid and an
Common examples of esteryhmällä compounds include ethyl acetate, used as a solvent and in nail polish remover,
