Eseménytér

Eseménytér is a Hungarian term that translates to "event space" or "sample space" in English, most commonly used in the context of probability theory and statistics. It represents the set of all possible outcomes of a random experiment or event. For example, if the experiment is tossing a coin, the eseménytér would be {Heads, Tails}. If the experiment is rolling a standard six-sided die, the eseménytér would be {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}.

The elements within the eseménytér are called elementary events or outcomes. An event itself is a subset of the eseménytér. For instance, in the die-rolling example, the event "rolling an even number" is the subset {2, 4, 6} of the eseménytér {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}. Understanding the eseménytér is fundamental to calculating probabilities of specific events, as the probability of an event is typically defined as the ratio of the number of favorable outcomes (elements in the event subset) to the total number of possible outcomes (elements in the eseménytér), assuming all outcomes are equally likely. The concept extends to more complex scenarios involving multiple variables or continuous outcomes, where the eseménytér can be a more abstract mathematical space.
