Escallonia
Escallonia is a genus of evergreen shrubs and small trees in the family Escalloniaceae. Native to South America, particularly Chile and Argentina, these plants are widely cultivated for their attractive foliage and abundant, often fragrant, flowers. Escallonia species typically feature glossy, leathery leaves, usually ovate or lance-shaped, and produce clusters of small, tubular flowers. These flowers can range in color from white and pink to red and deep crimson, blooming primarily in summer and autumn, though some varieties may have extended flowering periods.
The genus comprises several species, with Escallonia macrantha being one of the most popular for garden use.
