Erosionsprävention refers to measures taken to prevent or reduce the erosion of soil and rock. Erosion is a natural process where the Earth's surface is worn away by factors like wind, water, and ice. While natural erosion is a slow geological process, human activities can significantly accelerate it, leading to soil degradation, loss of fertile land, and increased sedimentation in waterways.

Various techniques are employed for erosion prevention. In agriculture, contour plowing and terracing help slow down water runoff on sloped fields. Crop rotation and the use of cover crops protect the soil surface from direct impact by rain and wind. Mulching, which involves covering the soil with organic material, also serves to retain moisture and suppress erosion.

For construction sites and bare land, methods like the use of erosion control blankets, geogrids, and hydroseeding are common. Erosion control blankets, often made of natural fibers, help stabilize soil and promote vegetation growth. Geogrids are synthetic materials that reinforce soil structures, making them more resistant to displacement. Hydroseeding involves spraying a mixture of seed, mulch, and fertilizer onto the soil, encouraging rapid plant establishment.

Coastal erosion is managed through hard engineering solutions such as seawalls and breakwaters, or soft engineering approaches like beach nourishment and dune restoration. In river systems, bank stabilization techniques, including vegetation planting and riprap (large stones), are used to prevent undercutting and collapse of riverbanks. Effective erosion prevention is crucial for maintaining environmental health, agricultural productivity, and infrastructure integrity.
