Erierojen

Erierojen is a Finnish indie rock band formed in 2005 in Helsinki, known for combining acoustic folk instrumentation with contemporary alternative rock rhythms. The founding members are vocalist and guitarist Joonas Heikkilä, bassist Matti Kinnunen, drummer Laura Niemi, and keyboardist Timo Salmi. Early performances were largely carried out on the Kallio music scene, where the quartet developed a reputation for live improvisation and socially conscious lyrics.

In 2007 the band released their debut EP, “Mere Keskikukkas,” which featured four tracks that highlighted the juxtaposition between traditional Finnish melodies and modern production techniques. The EP was well received by critics and earned the band a nomination for the Emma Award in the category "Best New Artist." Erierojen followed this success with their first full-length studio album, “Satamisen Aika,” in 2009. The album included hit singles such as “Satumaa” and “Varmistaja,” and it reached number twelve on the Finnish Albums Chart. 2011 saw the release of the second album, “Kähkymät ja Kiemet,” for which the band received their first international tour across Sweden and Norway.

The group continued to experiment with sound on the 2014 album “Kivet ja Kukkulat,” blending electronic elements and extended instrumental sections. Erierojen’s music often addresses themes such as identity, modernity, and environmental awareness. Their lyrical style is characterized by poetic imagery and an introspective tone. The band has been invoked as a notable influence on the newer wave of Finnish indie artists.

As of 2023, Erierojen is active, with the current lineup unchanged since 2010. They are currently working on a third studio album, slated for release later in the year. The band remains a prominent figure in the Finnish alternative music scene.
