Ergüssen

Ergüssen is the plural of the German noun Erguss, literally meaning "pouring" or "outpouring". The term is used in a variety of technical and figurative contexts to denote a collection of fluids, discharges or figurative emissions.

In medicine Ergüsse commonly refer to pathological fluid accumulations: Pleuraerguss (fluid in the pleural cavity), Perikarderguss (fluid around the heart) and Gelenkerguss (joint effusion) are standard clinical terms. Diagnostic evaluation typically involves imaging (ultrasound, X‑ray, CT) and, when indicated, aspiration and laboratory analysis of the fluid to determine cause and guide treatment.

Outside medicine, Ergüsse can describe nonphysical outpourings, for example literary or intellectual productions (geistige Ergüsse) and artistic expressions. In colloquial and medical language Samenerguss denotes ejaculation; Ejakulat is the more scientific equivalent.

Etymologically the word derives from the verb ergießen ("to pour out") and follows normal German noun formation. Grammatically Erguss is masculine (der Erguss) and forms the plural Ergüsse. Usage ranges from neutral technical descriptions to figurative or pejorative senses depending on context.
