Epeútszúrásos

Epeútszúrásos refers to a medical condition related to the bile ducts, specifically involving a procedure or issue associated with them. In Hungarian medical terminology, "epe" means bile, "út" means duct or way, and "szúrásos" relates to piercing or puncture. Therefore, epeútszúrásos can be broadly understood as a condition or procedure involving puncture of the bile ducts.

This term is most commonly associated with percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTC) or percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD). PTC is an imaging technique used to visualize the bile ducts when they cannot be adequately seen with other methods. PTBD is a therapeutic procedure that involves inserting a drainage tube through the skin and liver into a bile duct to relieve obstructions.

Indications for such procedures include the diagnosis and management of conditions like bile duct stones, strictures (narrowing), or tumors. These can lead to jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) and other complications due to the obstruction of bile flow from the liver to the small intestine.

The procedure itself involves using imaging guidance, such as ultrasound or fluoroscopy, to insert a needle or catheter through the skin and liver into the bile duct. Contrast dye is then injected to visualize the ductal system, and if drainage is required, a tube is left in place.

While generally safe, epeútszúrásos procedures carry potential risks, including bleeding, infection, bile leakage, and injury to surrounding organs. These risks are carefully weighed against the benefits of diagnosis and treatment. The term itself highlights the invasive nature of accessing the bile ducts via a puncture.
