Enfoquemos

Enfoquemos is a form of the Spanish verb enfocar and is used primarily as the first-person plural present subjunctive, as well as an affirmative imperative in the inclusive sense. In everyday language, it translates to “let us focus” or “let us focus on this.” The form is distinct from the present indicative enfocamos, which simply states “we focus.”

Etymology and grammar notes: Enfocar comes from the root foco (focus) with the verb suffix -ar. The present subjunctive for nosotros is enfoquemos, produced by adding the subjunctive ending -emos to the stem enfoc- with a spelling change that reflects the base form. The affirmative imperative uses the same form: enfoquemos. The negative imperative is formed as no enfoquemos (for example, “No enfoquemos ese tema ahora”). In clauses introduced by expressions of suggestion or future action, a sentence may read, “Es necesario que enfoquemos nuestras metas.”

Usage and context: Enfoquemos appears in formal or semi-formal speech, meetings, strategy documents, and public discourse to rally a group toward a common focus. It commonly appears in educational, corporate, or organizational contexts where collective action is intended. While it is grammatically correct in many Spanish dialects, some speakers prefer synonyms such as centrémonos or enfoquemos nuestros esfuerzos, depending on style and register.
