Endotermiline

Endotermiline is not a term with a widely accepted meaning in biology, chemistry, or physiology. As of 2025, there is no peer‑reviewed publication, database entry, or standardized nomenclature that defines endotermiline as a specific molecule, gene, protein, or physiological process. Consequently, the term is generally considered undefined outside of speculative or informal contexts.

In some informal or speculative usages, endotermiline has been invoked to denote a hypothetical intracellular agent involved in heat generation or thermal regulation, particularly in discussions about endothermy. However, such use is not supported by experimental evidence, and it should not be treated as established science. In formal scientific writing, researchers typically refer to established mechanisms of heat production, such as thermogenesis, mitochondrial uncoupling proteins, shivering, or other well‑characterized processes.

The term should not be confused with endotherm, which describes organisms that maintain their body temperature through internal regulatory mechanisms, or with terms describing heat exchange such as exothermic. Etymologically, endotermiline would combine roots related to inside or within and heat, plus a chemical‑sounding suffix, but this construction is hypothetical rather than descriptive of a defined concept.
