In accounting, the end-of-period close encompasses the activities that finalize financial results for the period. This includes adjusting entries for accruals and deferrals, recording depreciation and amortization, and provisioning for items such as bad debts. After adjustments, revenue and expense accounts are closed to zero and net income or loss is transferred to retained earnings.
