In animals, the life cycle typically begins with fertilization, where a sperm cell fertilizes an egg cell, resulting in a zygote. The seedling grows into a mature plant, which then produces seeds or fruits that contain new seeds. These seeds can germinate and start a new life cycle. Some plants, like mosses and ferns, have a simpler life cycle without a seed stage, involving only the production of spores.

Fungi and other microorganisms also have unique life cycles. For example, fungi reproduce through spores, which can germinate and grow into new fungal structures. Some fungi, like mushrooms, have a life cycle that includes both asexual and sexual reproduction.
